The musicology program offers undergraduate and graduate courses to support all of the School of Music’s degree programs, as well as a master of music (MM) degree in musicology. Additionally, the School of Music Endowed Chair in Musicology is filled every third year.

For a list of undergraduate courses in music, please see the UA undergraduate catalog. Information about graduate courses in musicology can be found in the UA graduate catalog and the School of Music Graduate Handbook, which contains specific course requirements for the MM in musicology.

All incoming graduate students must take the graduate diagnostic examination in music theory. Current graduate students must take the comprehensive examination, which includes a music history section, before being admitted to candidacy.
